Lecture
Tove Jansson (1914-2001) was a Finnish-Swedish author, artist and politically active citizen. In 1945 her first «Moomin» book («The Moomins and the Great Flood») was published, and many more followed and were hugely successful.
In an illustrated talk (in English) Tuula Kerjalainen will tell us about the life of this famous author, followed by a discussion between Tuula Kerjalainen and translator Anke Michler-Janhunen about Tove Jansson and her eventful life (in Finnish and German).
«Haru – The Island of the Solitary»
Kanerva Cederström, Riika Tanner, FIN 1998, Finn/d, 44 Min.
For 25 years, Tove Jansson and her life partner, graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä, spent the summer on the island of Klovharu in the Gulf of Finland. Both shot films and took photographs. The film «Haru» is based on Super-8 material that Tuuliki shot there between 1970 and 1991. Texts by Tove Jansson are heard in the off. We will be screening the film «Haru – The Island of the Solitary» after the lecture and discussion.
